Haakaa Breastfeeding Positions

on February 11, 2022 .
There are so many different positions a mama can breastfeed in, while catching her precious let-down with the Haakaa pump.
As your bub grows you may find the ‘go to position’ changes (and once toddlerhood hits, hello mama the climbing gym)!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We have included some common breastfeeding positions (scroll down). Let’s run through them!

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Cradled
This is generally the most common position, to have baby cradled across you breastfeeding, facing inwards.

Cross Cradle
This position gives mama a bit more control, and ability to assist with bubs latch. This works well for premature babies and can help bub stay latched if they tend to pull themselves off frequently.

Football hold
This position is really helpful for smaller babies, women with larger breasts or mamas with inverted or flat nipples as it helps achieve a deeper latch. It is also great for mamas who have just had a c-section, so bub doesn’t touch the incision. If your bub is a bit bigger and likes to kick the Haakaa pump off, this can also be a useful position!

⠀⠀⠀
Laidback (mama)
A great position for baby-led feeding and skin to skin. If you have a strong let-down reflex that bub struggles with, laying back can help with this, due to gravity.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Side lying
Great for mamas who have had a vaginal birth, and have a painful perineal and vaginal area.
Sitting can be quite uncomfortable for the first few weeks after birth. This is also a nice position when you want to lay down and relax while giving bub a feed. Also good for mamas who have had a C-section, if side lying is comfortable. This position can take some practice.

What position do you find the easiest and most comfortable for you and bub to breastfeed in mama?
