How to safely store expressed breastmilk?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Many of us mamas wear so many hats (hello chauffeur, security guard, chef, cleaner and entertainer!).
While we are busy being absolute super mamas, how can we safely store our milk on the go or when we are moving between places?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We love being a chosen partner of
@plunketnz who aims to educate new families all around New Zealand, so we wanted to share some information with you all on this topic, which can sometimes be confusing!

How long can you leave milk out for when you’re on the go?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Breastmilk can stay out at room temperature (below 26 degrees) for a maximum of 4 hours.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How long does breastmilk last in the fridge, if fresh (not previously frozen)?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Plunket recommends no more than 48 hours in the fridge, and ideally pop the milk in the coldest part of the fridge right at the back (where you are likely hiding those yummy chocolates from the kids!)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How can I store milk if I am out and about?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you are out and know you will be pumping or you are moving milk from one place to the other take a cooler bag with ice bricks with you, you can pop your milk in there to safely store it for up to 4 hours!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How long can you wear the Ladybug Milk Collector?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- The ladybug replaces a breast pad, and saves milk while on the go, in between feeds. If you collect and store milk, within the hour, this milk can be fed straight to bub. Some mamas will use this milk for things such as a breastmilk bath, in which case you can leave it on for longer.
